April 26, 202154% of American travelers plan to make a trip within the first two months of being vaccinated.
The search engine HomeToGo has published the research ” Return of Travel “, reporting a change in travel behaviors, as the “new regularity” is formed and travel begins to recover. With vaccination in full swing in the US, Americans are willing to travel, according to a HomeToGo survey, which found that 54% of American travelers plan to travel within the first two months of being vaccinated.
“After a difficult year in which time was spent mainly indoors, our data show that travelers desperately want to get away and enjoy a much-needed break from all this, with many searches for tourist rentals in quieter destinations, which will allow them to truly disconnect, ” said Mahendra Roopa , HomeToGo’s Director of Product, Machine Learning and Data Science. “We are also seeing an upward trend in two-person travel this summer, as travelers surveyed expressed a greater desire to travel with their partner than before the pandemic.”
Some of the key findings of the research are:
- After more than a year of distance working and learning, families and young professionals want to “recharge their batteries”, with 68% of respondents expressing a desire to disconnect from work on their upcoming vacation.
- 51% expressed a greater desire to travel with their partner compared to the pre-pandemic situation and 70% of respondents said that their partner would be the travel partner they would prefer for their next vacation.
- Last-minute mid-week getaways and extended weekends continue to dominate this summer, as HomeToGo’s “Flexible Date Date” feature has grown 600% over the past year for travel, excluding standard vacation weeks.
- Eighty percent of travelers surveyed said they saved money by traveling less in 2020, and 55 percent said they intended to spend it on future vacations.
- Travelers are ready for international travel, with 92% of respondents intending to visit an international destination, the same or more frequently after vaccination.
- 45% of respondents to the survey rank the possibility of free cancellation among the top two factors taken into account when booking a rental, in addition to the price. This factor took precedence over other tempting amenities such as beach access, fixed internet, swimming pool, hot tub or sauna.
“Traveling to new places has the amazing ability to make us happy – in fact, 92% of American travelers surveyed feel that travel improves their mental health,” added Caroline Burns , PR & Travel Expert at HomeToGo .
