The European online travel platform holidaypirates.com has doubled its sales for domestic travel since 2019. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic travel accounted for about 20% of total business activity. This increased to 40% in the first quarter of 2021.
The Phil Salcedo , head of the UK market. Kingdom & B. HolidayPirates of America, commented:“Consumers traditionally use online platforms to look for good deals and cheap flights abroad. Prior to the pandemic, prices for domestic tourism were greatly influenced by peak availability for family vacations and by hotel offers that wanted to improve their occupancy on certain days of the week. These factors were not widely used in promotional sites.
The pandemic has changed the way consumers get inspired and seek out holidays. For the time being, vacations at home take the place of vacations abroad. This means that people use the platforms they would normally use for offers abroad to ensure a good offer for a holiday close to home. The good news for the public is that there are still many offers for the summer holidays “ .
